Tokyo
In the last leg of their autumn tour of Japan (snow was a bonus!), my parents, Uncle Jack and I spent a long weekend in Tokyo. We went to Odaiba, Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, Ueno, and some other places. We had plenty of good food, and they were not necessarily expensive. We went to my favourite sticky ramen restaurant in Roppongi, the 100-yen sushi conveyor belt place in Harajuku, the beef yakiniku place (they have an outlet in Singapore! It's called Gyu-kaku 牛角 and you can find it in Chijmes. The speciality is beef tongue.) The most expensive meal we had was at this fishing restaurant. You basically catch your own fish / lobster / crab / stingray (they even had a small shark!) and tell the staff how you want it prepared - sashimi, steamed, grilled or fried. If you are too lazy to fish, you can order from the menu, but it's more expensive.
Although it was my goodness-knows-how-many-times visit to Tokyo, it is a city that you will always discover something new.
Harajuku never fails to surprise. There were the usual goths and maids walking around (although not as many as during summer) but guess what we ran into? A ferrets congregation!! There were about 7 girls (think there was a guy too) and they brought their pet ferrets along with pretty leashes on them! There were like 15-20 ferrets! Some of them had 4-5 ferrets in a pet carrier. They gathered at a busy corner before the square in front of Meiji Shrine. (We saw like 3-4 wedding processions at Meiji Shrine, which was a first for my parents and Uncle Jack)
